If you feel like you have something to say about theatre, why not submit it to Curtains Up? I’m always looking for new and interesting content to round out our reviews.
In terms of writers, I’m looking for the following qualities:
- Loves theatre utterly and completely (non-negotiable)
- Original point of view
- Articulate, able to be precise about what they observe
- Deeply respectful of theatre people and their craft
- A good communicator who stays in regular contact to get the job done
- Open to constructive feedback
- Reliable, able to hand in content on a reasonable time line
It’s great to have people to call on for reviews, but it is also great to have opinion pieces or content about areas that aren’t always covered. For example, we see a lot of interviews with actors and directors but not as many with people who work in production. Why not change that? I’m available for mentoring, answering questions and hooking people up with resources as needed.
Before I have you reviewing, I’d like to see a piece of original writing approximately between 500-750 word (I don’t count). We will work together on finessing the piece until it’s ready for publication. At that point I will ask you for a head shot and a 150 word bio for the site.
What do you get from reviewing with Curtains Up? Well, theatre tickets which you pay for with writing instead of cash. You get experience developing your writing skills with someone who has worked professionally as a writing teacher. Finally, you will learn a ton about art criticism which applies to any number of other fields.
